Tender Description
Scope of work
Rio Tinto Iron Ore's Pilbara Rail Network comprises in excess of 1700km of rail infrastructure (1400km of Mainline and 300km Yards and Loops) which extends from Dampier & Cape Lambert Ports south to Brockman, Paraburdoo and to the East Pilbara (Yandi & West Angelas).
The network traverses varying topography from salt flats to floodplains to mountainous foot-slopes and passes through a number of sensitive areas such as National Parks and Public Drinking Water Catchments.
The general objective of the scope of works is to reinstate a vegetation and weed management plan for the immediate rail formation area (area within the danger zone, approximately 5m either side of rail), in order to satisfy the following objectives;
- Reduce fuel load throughout the network to reduce bushfire risk during hot works and other maintenance activities;
- Reduce vegetation damage to formation, embankments, civil and signalling assets;
- Reduce obstruction of vegetation for routine rail maintenance activities;
- Reduce obstruction of vegetation for inspection activities;
- Reduce establishment and spread of invasive and high priority weeds throughout the operating footprint.
The network has had minimal little to no vegetation management works carried out for a number of years and as such a program for the long-term management is required to address the existing vegetation load and ongoing management of the network.
The scope of works is to also include a detailed management plan for the long-term management of vegetation and weeds throughout the danger zone, while minimising impacts on the network, costs and time.
Works performed by the contractor will include;
- All inductions, training and safety management requirements;
- All planning and project management requirements (Gantt, detailed Methodology, ITP’s etc.)
- Site scoping visits and associated site meetings / workshops with the company as required;
- Mobilisation of required personnel and equipment to site;
- Supply and mobilisation of all equipment and machinery sufficient to achieve objectives;
- Provide Quality Assurance documentation post completion of works;
- Demobilisation, ensuring site is sufficiently clean and left in acceptable state.
Works methodology has not been restricted to a single method, application or treatment. However, the tenderer shall display expert knowledge, detailed methodology, associated qualifications and clear identification of costs and proposed program.
The successful contractor shall also be able to provide evidence of previous experience, evidence of innovation in their class to reduce either time or cost and a record of sound safety performance.
