Tender Description
Request for Proposal: Understanding the mode of action of phosphite in avocado for enhanced management of Phytophthora root rot
Hort Innovation is a not-for-profit, grower-owned Research and Development Corporation (RDC) for Australia’s $13.2 billion horticulture industry. Hort Innovation invests around $110 million in research and development (R&D) and marketing programs annually to provide benefit to industry and the wider community.
Hort Innovation is seeking a suitably qualified, experienced and capable delivery partner for the project: Understanding the mode of action of phosphite in avocado for enhanced management of Phytophthora root rot (AV19005).
The objective of the services being sought is to understand how to maximise uptake of phosphite by roots through well timed applications that optimise effectiveness of Phytophthora root rot (PRR) management whilst minimising residue. To do this, the secondary objectives are to:
- Understand the relative importance of phosphite in managing PRR in avocado by (i) directly inhibiting phytophthora growth and (ii) indirectly inhibiting phytophthora growth by initiating plant responses
- Understand how phosphite is stored, metabolised and translocated in avocado trees
- Understand phytophthora activity peaks for each major growing region
- Identify and extend recommendations for optimal timing and efficacy of phosphite application while as far as possible minimising residue on fruit in order to strengthen productivity and comply with international MRL requirements
