Kainga Ora Homes and Communities is a new Crown agency that brings together the people, capabilities and resources of KiwiBuild, Housing New Zealand, and its development subsidiary HLC. This will enable a more joined-up approach to supporting the Government's priorities for housing and urban development in Aotearoa New Zealand.
The new agency is charged with being a world class public housing landlord and leading integrated urban development. KaingaOra will partner with developers, councils, Maori, government agencies, local communities, and others to enable, facilitate and deliver urban development projects of all sizes.
These projects will provide people with good quality, public, affordable and market homes that connect to the jobs, transport, open spaces and facilities needed for communities to thrive. Kainga Ora will also play an essential role in tackling the Government's priorities of ending homelessness and making homes in New Zealand more affordable.
Kainga Ora are redeveloping a number of adjacent lots bordering Arlington Street, Hopper Street and Hankey Street, in the Mt Cook area of Wellington, New Zealan
The project intends to replace 212 existing dwellings built in 1976 with between 280 and 300 new homes that will be a mix of public and affordable housing, with some supported living units
The Concept Design for the development is complete and Resource Consent has been submitted to Wellington City Council.
Kainga Ora are seeking a suitably experienced and qualified Civil Engineer, and Infrastructure & Traffic Engineer to provide consultancy services on the redevelopment project. The services include, but not limited to
- Site analysis
- Detailed geotechnical investigations
- Ground contamination management
- Infrastructure analysis
- Earthworks and ground improvement works
- Erosion, sediment control
- Three waters design storm water, drainage (wastewater/sewerage), water supply
- Traffic, parking design, access and council vehicle crossings
- Public infrastructure amendments
- Civil engineering integration of building landscaping and with public realm including:
- Major, engineered retaining walls and structures, and steps
- Roads (kerb alignment locations, pedestrian lanes, pedestrian crossings (across driveways) subgrade strengthening, subbase design and surfacing design.
- Paved surfaces (sidewalks, shared/community space areas, lanes and gateways).
- Ecologically appropriate stormwater treatment and drainage including bioretention gardens and/or rain gardens and other stormwater treatment, as required
- Consideration of treatment of overland flow paths
- Pedestrian and cycle access
- Utility identification, relocation or modification. This will include liaison with various utility providers to obtain plans, design requirements and their programme of proposed upgrade works. All design required for service relocations will form part of this work:
- Gas supply
- Primary electrical supply and street lighting
- Primary telecommunications and data services
- Three waters
- Minor engineering landscape structures as necessary (walls, battered excavations, signage and sign supports, steps, fencing, water features, art installations, street furniture)
- Hard landscaping works, including paving, walls, steps ramps, fencing, water features etc.
