RFQ 67/19 - The Bega Valley Shire is located at the south-eastern extremity of New South Wales.

The Shire’s coastal fringe extends from Wallaga Lake in the north to Cape Howe and the Victorian border in the south.
Collectively this 225-kilometre section of coastline forms the beautiful Sapphire Coast, the heart of Australia’s Coastal Wilderness.

Inland, the higher peaks of the Great Dividing Range give way to rolling hills and numerous majestic rivers and pristine streams.
Approximately 73 percent of the Shire’s 6,280 square kilometres are protected National Park or State Forest.

The Shire has a relatively small population of approximately 33,946 people (2016 census data).

The Shire’s combined attributes of natural beauty, temperate climate, proximity to Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra, and its fascinating diversity of towns, villages, recreational opportunities and commercial enterprises has attracted visitors and new residents for many years.

The Shire has one identified regional centre, Bega and three main towns; Merimbula, Eden and Bermagui. There are also a number of villages and locations which provide services for the local community.
