Ports North is responsible for the development and management of port facilities vital to the development of Cairns and regional centres in Far North Queensland. The Corporation has extensive property, marina, tourism and cargo facilities under Ports North ownership and management in Cairns and its regional ports, including the Port of Thursday Island.
The Cargo Shed is located on the hardstand of the Main Wharf at the intersection of Victoria Parade and Jetty Street. The shed was constructed in 1975 and extended in 1983. It consists of steel framing and colour bond cladding. The scope of works includes resheeting, replacing corroded steel elements and repairing protective paint coatings.
The facility with surrounding yard and wharf provides critical freight operations for the Thursday Island community. Safety, methodology and programming will be critical to the successful delivery of the project. To ensure a full understanding of the works and subsequent effect on freight operations a compulsory tender briefing will be held on site 12:00noon Tuesday 9 July 2019.
Ports North invites tenders from suitably qualified and available Contractors, with appropriate experience in building construction in the Torres Region for the delivery of this project.
