Dampier Salt Limited (DSL) Port Hedland operates 29 crystalliser ponds to produce solar salt. A typical pond is 800m x 420m, though some vary is shape and total size.
DSL require salt crystalliser cleaning works as a result of Tropical Cyclone Veronica. Flood waters and high winds caused damage and undercutting of levees which brought mud into the salt ponds. The levee material, which consists of limestone and pindan clay has washed approximately 10-15m into the ponds. The mud which varies in thickness from 1cm - 150cm lies on top of clean harvestable salt. Further details on the scope are in the attachment provided
The service provider must mobilise personnel and plant to Port Hedland and complete pond cleaning works. In order to clean each pond the following is required:
* Grade contaminated salt around edge of into windrow, load into side tipper and cart to waste dump;
* Integrate into existing DSL load and haul operations;
* Equipment required is 2x side tippers, 2x graders, 2x front end loaders, 6x operators and 1x supervisor;
* Approximately 7-10 days of work per pond pending productivity and haulage distance;
* Equipment working in a salt environment (service provider to absorb costs of additional maintenance from salt)
