Story Bridge Restoration Project

⁠⁠⁠Council is seeking tenders for the Story Bridge Restoration Project. The Project comprises spot repair and overcoating works to the Story Bridge located over the Brisbane River between Kangaroo Point and Fortitude Valley.

The bridge is regarded as a critical asset to Brisbane’s local road network servicing approximately 100,000 vehicles per day. The project aims to extend the serviceable life of the existing protective coatings. Constructed in the late 1930’s, the Bridge is of a riveted construction and has been continuously painted as part of its on-going up keeping. The original painting system appears to be a red lead pigmented alkyd primer and alkyd topcoat system.

The current predominant coating system has been chlorinated rubber with other generic coating systems used from time to time. It is essential that the project effectively addresses coating and corrosion issues unique to the construction type and structures of this period, while minimising the whole of life cost of the asset.
