Western Health (WH) is seeking to establish a relationship with a vendor to provide all frozen meals to patients within a new Women’s and Children’s precinct at Sunshine Hospital.

The new JKWC is due for completion in 2019, and will be a multi-storey facility on the Sunshine Hospital site. The building will include 20 labour delivery rooms, 39 Special Care Nursery cots, 64 women’s inpatient beds, 32 children’s inpatient beds, 4 operating theatres and additional outpatient clinics

WH’s aim is to provide a food service solution to patients accommodated within the JKWC that is flexible, responsive and caters for all patients’ nutritional, cultural and clinical needs.

The majority of patients admitted to the JKWCH will be nutritionally well and have a relatively short hospital stay (2-6 days). The Western Health population include a high percentage of patients from Islamic faith requiring Halal meals, and those born overseas including India, Vietnam and Philippines. The special diets will most commonly reflect cultural/religious requirements and food preferences, including halal and vegetarian diets.

The JKWCH menu will provide a balance between healthy food choices and familiar & favourite foods, for both children and women admitted for care. meeting their nutritional needs.
