RFT2018-21 - The Civic Centre was built in 1971 and has served as the main administration point for the Town of Port Hedland in that time. Over the 47 years being used as an active space, there have been no significant upgrades to the internals of the building, with the exception of an accessible ablution. The current internal layout does not meet the current or future need of the Town or the community.
The Civic Centre houses two sets of ablutions with neither complying with the Towns adopted DAIP or current building code requirements. With consideration of the use of the facility as a publicly accessible building there is an urgency to address these long outstanding issues.
The current layout requires significant changes in order to provide an open plan space which will house the current and future staffing levels, allowing for Gratwick Hall to be returned to the Community as well as improving air flow throughout the building.
