Smart Tank Technology Review

⁠⁠⁠South East Water is one of Melbourne’s three state-owned metropolitan water retailers. We provide water, sewerage, trade waste and recycled water services for residents and businesses in Melbourne’s south east, located in the state of Victoria, Australia.

South East Water is looking to engage suitably qualified, capable and experienced consultant(s) to carry out research to inform South East Water on the future direction for our Smart Tank products.

South East Water has developed the Smart Tank technology (Tank Talk®) which allows for weather forecast dependant control of rainwater tanks.

These products are at various stages of maturity and/or development and require residential and commercial market research to guide business decisions on the next steps.

Research 1: Land retake value & property value

This research is to test the hypothesis that smart rainwater tanks will reduce the required size of wetlands, retarding, and/or detentions systems required in land development which will be of value to certain beneficiaries/customers.

It is also meant to test the hypothesis that installing smart rainwater tanks in an area prone to stormwater flooding will increase the value of properties/real estate in that area due to increased liveability.

Research 2: Customer research

This research is to investigate what residential or commercial/industrial customer market (segments, if any) may exist for Tank Talk® and the two specific product variations of Tank Talk®.

These variations as described above will include a lower cost Tank Talk® & an irrigation system water manager.

As part of this research piece the consultant will identify the potential segments/customers (both within and outside of South East Water’s geographical service areas) to explore the research. These potential customers may include but not limited to:

* Residential households
* Commercial/industrial businesses
* Councils
* Developers
