Tender Description
Walgett Shire Council (Council) is a local government providing services to the towns of Walgett, Lightning Ridge and Collarenebri, villages including Carinda, Cumborah, Rowena and Burren Junction, and the surrounding rural areas. Council's Engineering Department manages roads and paths (sealed and unsealed), aerodromes, water supply, wastewater disposal, storm water flooding control structures, solid waste collection and landfills, gravel pits, buildings, swimming pools, cemeteries, urban streetscape, parks and sporting fields, plant and vehicles, radio communication facilities and reserves.
Council is undertaking a Project for stage one of the Walgett Cemetery Upgrade as part of the Stronger Communities Programme and therefore invites suitably qualified and experienced contractors to supply and lay turf at Walgett Cemetery to an area covering up to 4800 square metres in accordance with the Conditions of Tendering and specifications contained in the quotation document.
The proposed preparing and laying of turf shall comply with Australian Standards, legislations and codes of practice. Bidders are required to provide a proposed methodology along with their price for the service.
The scope of works is as follows:
Turf
Supply and lay turf for an area covering of approx. 4800 square metres. When choosing the lawn for Walgett region bidders are advised to take into consideration climatic conditions of sub zero temperatures during winter nights, through to extreme heat of over 40 degrees during late summer.
The dormancy period of June, July and August is best avoided for transplanting, October through to April is an ideal time for establishment.
Ground Preparation
Ground preparation should conform to AS4419 2003, Soils for Landscaping and Garden Use.
Level uneven surfaces and topdressing with organic matter to conform AS4419.
Remove any vegetation using a glyphosate weed spray.
Allow 7 to 10 days for the weed spray to take effect.
Once your site is prepared, it is advisable to lay the turf before any new weed vegetation appears.
Underground automatic irrigation for the turf will be installed under a separate contract.
The successful bidder shall submit a guide on maintenance of the new turf.
