Urban Design Advisor

⁠⁠⁠Knox City Council is seeking to enhance its urban design capabilities through the engagement of an Urban Design Advisor (UDA). In particular, Council seeks to better enable a holistic approach to urban design responses through a program of ongoing review, education, advocacy, and advice.

Education - work with Council’s City Planning staff to develop their knowledge and skills associated with architectural design, particularly to enable them to advocate for improvements to design merit and building performance through permit process.

Advocacy - (General) – work with regular planning permit applicants, local builders and architects, and the community to advocate for improved design outcomes in Knox. (Technical)-represent/ assist Council at VCAT and Planning Panel hearings.

Advice - provide advice on planning permit applications (including at pre-application stage) and make recommendations for improving design outcomes (both functionally and aesthetically) in consultation with Council’s ESD Referrals Officer and City Planning Department. In addition, provide broader urban design advice to assist Council in the preparation of strategic documents including structure plans. This process contributes to the ‘Education’ element noted above.
