Walkabout Creek Discovery Centre - 60 Mount Nebo Road, The Gap Q 4061 - Civil Construction - New Carpark and Footpaths.
Walkabout Creek Discovery Centre (WCDC) at 60 Mt Nebo Road, The Gap is one of three Gateway Visitor Centres, operated by the Department of Environment and Science throughout Queensland. The other Gateway Visitor Centres are Mon Repos Turtle Centre (near Bundaberg) and David Fleay Wildlife Park (on the Gold Coast).
The objective of the Gateway Visitor Centres is to provide a premier natural and recreational experience for residents and tourists.
The WCDC Carpark and Footpaths Project will provide:
* An additional 47 public car parking bays, including 34 new bays and 2 disabled bays;
* 300m of pedestrian paths to improve connections from the centre and new carpark to the Events Lawn;
* Over 200m of pedestrian paths to improve connections from the Translink Bus Interchange to the Events Lawn;
* Restricted vehicular access from the heritage house precinct to the Events lawn; and
* An upgrading of the heritage house precinct.
