A feasibility study for a program to build capacity and business opportunities for Aboriginal communities in environmental management across the Riverina / Murray Region. The program goal is to enable more Aboriginal people to work and practice culture for longer time on country.
This feasibility study will
* Research existing Aboriginal environmental management programs that demonstrate environmental, social, cultural and economic benefits to Aboriginal communities;
* Explore business models for a regional partnership agreement providing support to Aboriginal environmental management teams and develop training, marketing, governance and financial requirements for each model; and
* Identify and engage partners, stakeholders and clients to align to program needs.
A regional approach will
* Increase opportunities for Aboriginal communities to be trained and employed to work on and manage country through a regional partnership agreement between government, land managers, training providers and Aboriginal environmental management teams;
* Demonstrate a measure of improvement in the health of the environment and combating climate change through application of traditional knowledge and practice;
* Build capacity of Aboriginal communities to establish sustainable & viable businesses in environmental management and cultural practice;
* Undertake market research to identify new potential services and clients; and
* Create opportunities for Aboriginal communities to develop resilience by participating & preparing for climate change.
