Provision of Biosecurity Services for Lord Howe Island
Tender ID: 616814
Tender Details
Tender Description
Project goals
Biosecurity services are essential for Lord Howe Island to protect its unique ecosystem, which includes many endemic and endangered species of flora and fauna. Due to its isolated location, the island is particularly vulnerable to external threats such as invasive pests, diseases, and weeds. Without stringent biosecurity measures, these threats could disrupt the ecological balance, endanger native species, and undermine significant conservation efforts aimed at preserving the island's biodiversity. Robust biosecurity ensures the continued health of this World Heritage-listed environment and safeguards the long-term investments made in its ecological restoration.
Scope
The supplier is required to undertake biosecurity surveillance checks of all domestic and commercial cargo transported by Birdon and Eastern Air Services who operate from Port Macquarie. Of particular interest are contemporary and innovative practices for the detection of a broad range of biosecurity matter in challenging environments.
Regular checks will be carried out at the following transport centres on a rolling basis to suit departure schedules as well as additional services during peak periods:
- Birdon Maritime Facility and the MV Island Trader in Port Macquarie
- Eastern Air Services, Port Macquarie
