Expressions of interest are invited from Ararat property owners who wish to participate in Council’s recently formed Rating Strategy Advisory Group (RSAG). The Group will consist of 12 community members who will be selected from key rating groups, including residential property owners, commercial property owners, industrial property owners and farm property owners. RSAG meetings will be chaired by an independent chair and supported by an expert in Local Government rating strategies.
RSAG members will work closely together to:
* identify and recommend the key principles that Council should consider when formulating its draft 2017/18 Rating Strategy for the Ararat Community
* provide advice to Council regarding the equitable sharing of the rate burden; including considerations for increasing or decreasing service-related charges and rebates
* provide advice to Council regarding the residential rate, and considerations of differential rates versus uniform rates
* propose improvements to Council’s approach to engaging with its communityregarding its 2017/18 Rating Strategy and Budget.
* produce a Rating Strategy Discussion Paper for Council to consider before seeking
public comment regarding the paper’s recommendations.
Applicants should have basic financial skills and a willingness to learn about rating strategy systems. Training in rating strategy systems will be provided by Council Officers.
The Group is likely to meet monthly commencing December 2017 through to June 2018.
