Tender Description

Expressions of interest have been called for an air transport licence to connect Sydney (Kingsford-Smith) Airport with Lord Howe Island.
Transport for NSW has announced that the State Government is calling for expressions of interest for an air transport licence to connect Sydney (Kingsford-Smith) Airport with Lord Howe Island.

Air services to Lord Howe Island are critical, as tourism is the major industry and source of income, and services are vital for keeping residents connected to the mainland.

Transport for NSW would consider a licence term longer than the standard five year term to provide certainty for Island residents and to encourage investment in the route.

The new licence will start on 30 March 2018.

Any airline interested in providing air services to Lord Howe Island should submit the following information to Transport for NSW:

  • The airline’s name, registered address and Australian Business Number (ABN) or equivalent
  • Key contact details for at least two people
  • A copy of its current Air Operator’s Certificate authorising regular public transport operations, and
  • The preferred term of the licence.

It will also be necessary for airlines to separately secure access to Sydney (Kingsford-Smith) Airport.

Transport for NSW will accept expressions of interest until 21 July 2017.

Any interested airlines should provide the required information to Transport for NSW either by email to aviationlicences@transport.nsw.gov.au, or by post to Transport for NSW, GPO Box K659, Haymarket NSW 1240.
