Tender Description

10167 - Queensland Woollen Mill was the first woollen mill built within Ipswich and was one of only three constructed in Queensland.

The building has had a number of additions and alterations throughout the years arising from different business needs.

The original building was constructed in 1890 with additions completed in 1915, 1930, est. 1940’s and 2005.

In 2008 the building was heritage listed with Council taking ownership in mid-2015.

The building has remained vacant for a number of years and has been progressively deteriorating to the point of being unsafe in some areas.

Council have engaged Consultants to assess the condition of the building and they have confirmed that it has been structurally altered, is unstable due to ground movement and damaged by termites. The building is structurally deficient and will continue to degrade, putting the structure at risk unless remedial action is taken.

Works proposed to be carried out to the building are the beginning of restoring the structure for the most part, to its original architectural form, and an eventual re-use.
