Coffey is contracted by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) to manage Australia Awards Papua New Guinea (AAPNG).
AAPNG is designed to promote knowledge, leadership and enduring ties between Australia and PNG. It aims to build knowledge and skills to address PNG’s economic and development challenges through international scholarships to Australia, and the provision of in-PNG scholarships.
In 2009, due to a high percentage of Papua New Guinean awardees in Australia facing academic challenges and welfare issues, AAPNG introduced a case management model for pastoral care for them. This evolved into the In Australia Support Services (IASS) and supported AAPNG achieve the following goals:
- An increased percentage of awardees returning to PNG with a qualification
- A reduced total cost of extending awards
- A reduced number of non-completions of awardees after an approved extension
- Alumni who are well-prepared to achieve their reintegration goals upon return.
Coffey, the managing contractor of the AAPNG Program on behalf of DFAT, is seeking proposals from professional organisations to provide the In-Australia Support Services (IASS).
The proposed period of the contract will be 1 July 2017 to 30 June 2019 which includes and transition phase with the current contractor. with a possibility of extension.
