Tender Description
Bayside City Council is seeking tenders from experienced civil contractors for this construction project, which includes essential a new concrete path /trail within little Brighton Reserve on the south of Union St between Thomas Street, to Hawthorn Road, Brighton East.
The objectives of this project are to connect the bicycle trail on the East side of Thomas St with Hawthorn Rd, taking care of the trees in the reserve and providing new infrastructure for the local and broader community (cyclist/commuters).
The existing trees close to the path alignment have been taken into close consideration in the design & town planning processes and they should be kept & protect as per the design plans, Council policy to work around trees and current AS 4970-2009. There are only three (3) trees to be removed as per the drawings. There is a main Hold Point once tree roots are exposed by hydro or air excavation and only after Council’s arborist approval root cutting can proceed as per guidelines in above documents. The vertical alignment in the project might vary at this hold point in order to reduce impact on trees. Trimming of branches to keep vertical clearance is to be done by an approved contractor.
The community is very alert about this project, therefore the contractor must ensure all traffic for excavation and removal of spoil, concrete pour, saw cutting etc. does not disturb / damage trees, All traffic minimises the areas to be disturbed and those areas are reinstated at the end of the construction period.
Access to properties and to playground must be kept safe & open with minimal interruptions. Works area should be fenced off during the contract period.
Due to tight timeframes all tenderers are to ensure their proposed project team are available for an interview on Wednesday 28th March if they are required. Bayside City Council appreciates your cooperation and understanding.
