ReWaste Facility 2

⁠⁠⁠Yarra Valley Water is seeking Proposals from contractors with suitable experience in the design and construction of anaerobic digestion facilities treating organic trucked waste.

The works involve the design and construction of a commercially viable anaerobic digestion facility on a Yarra Valley Water sewage treatment plant site. This facility will be required to:
* Accept and process on average 150m³/day of trucked organic waste that attracts an adequate gate fee
* Include pre-treatment trains capable of accepting a broad range of wastes
* Produce electricity and supply the adjacent sewage treatment plant as well as exporting to grid

In addition, the project will be designed so as to:
* Minimise odour
* Maximise re-use opportunities for digestate

Yarra Valley Water is currently commissioning its first anaerobic digestion facility. This facility, located in Wollert with our existing Aurora Sewage Treatment Plant, is a dedicated organic waste treatment facility for the trucked waste market and operates separate to Yarra Valley Water’s core water and sewage service business activities. The facility provides great synergies with Yarra Valley Water’s core assets, providing energy to our facilities while also generating additional revenue on land that typically has limited uses. It also aligns well with our environmental strategies and provides a wider community benefit through reducing organic waste delivered to landfills. The Facility is designed to process 100t of trucked organic waste per day, with 1MW of electricity generation capacity.

Yarra Valley Water has set up the entity ReWaste as a separate business unit to operate the new facility, as well as any associated activities. ReWaste will manage the facility’s operations and maintenance contract, source wastes for the facility and manage the growth of this business area.

ReWaste has identified an opportunity to further expand its activities by developing a second facility. The second facility is planned to be larger than the existing facility at Wollert, treating approximately 150t of organic waste per day.
