Newcastle Integrated Services

⁠⁠⁠Transport for NSW seeks proposals from the private sector for the supply of multi-modal transport services including operation and maintenance of bus, ferry and light rail services in Newcastle. The successful proponent will also manage and operate part of the transport interchange at Wickham.

The primary purpose of the Contract is to ensure that the Services are run by an efficient and experienced public transport operator, who is able to deliver improvements in service delivery and value of money, manage the commissioning of a new light rail system, assist TfNSW in developing longer term service plans and respresent TfNSW as the face of public transport in Newcastle.

TfNSW is looking to work with a multi-modal transport service operator to operate services from Newcastle for the people of Newcastle. The operator should have proven experience in providing safe and efficient transport services whilst reducing costs to government.

TfNSW wants to partner with an operator who has the capability to service plan for multi-modal operations, taking feedback from local community and stakeholders, and working in line with TfNSW guidelines to increase patronage and customer satisfaction levels. The integrated services franchise will include multi-modal responsibility including service planning for the following services:
* Bus services in what is known in the industry as outer Sydney metropolitan bus system contract region 5, currently operated by Newcastle Buses;
* Ferry services oprating between Stockton Wharf and Queens Wharf Newcastle, currently operated by Newcastle Buses; and
* Light rail services following completion of the light rail line from Wickham to Pacific Place.

The Operator will need to work cooperatively with the Managing Contractor delivering the fixed light rail infrastructrure, the rolling stock supplier and TfNSW to facilitate efficient and on-time commencement of light rail services.
