Tender Description

James Cook University (JCU) currently does not have a single, centralised digital object repository.

Learning objects are stored on several silo servers across the University. These objects are not readily discoverable which prevents the reuse and re-purposing as needed or as allowed subject to the Australian Copyright Act (1968).

It is envisioned that by storing all learning objects in a single, central repository with the appropriate metadata and access conditions including licenses, this will allow for an increase in discovery, access and use across the University.

Furthermore, where applicable and allowable, the project will deliver a solution that will facilitate the reuse and re-purposing of digital learning objects; the number of which will increase significantly in volume due to the blended learning policy implementation.

It is envisioned that with the implementation of a centralised compliant digital object repository, learning objects will be easily discoverable, accessible and useable; and along with increased open education practices this will deliver flexible and inclusive learning environments that capitalise on both face-to-face and virtual innovations and deliver enhanced learning outcomes for students.

It is expected the system solution to be adopted will seamlessly integrate with the current Learning Management System and the Media Capture System, reducing the costs of future upgrades.
