The Non-Parent Formal Carers Survey (NPFCS) is a collaborative project between the Australian Institute of Family Studies (AIFS) and the Department of Social Services (DSS).
The project was created in response to an uncompleted action under the Section Action Plan 2012-15 of the National Framework for Protecting Australia’s Children (National Framework), as well as a recommendation of the Senate Inquiry into Grandparents who take Primary Responsibility for Raising their Grandchildren.
In order to better inform government policies and practices to support non-parent formal carers, AIFS will design, develop and implement a national non-parent formal carers’ survey. This will be carried out in consultation with DSS, as well as the study’s inter-jurisdictional working group, which includes at least one representative from each of the six states and two territories. The survey will be conducted with the use of Computer-Assisted Telephone Interviewing [CATI].
