Tender Description
Landmark infill development opportunity at Willagee’s former Carawatha Primary School site.
With a vision to create an iconic residential site in a revitalised suburb, the City of Melville is seeking proposals for an exciting future development at the unique Carawatha site in Willagee.
A former primary school site, Carawatha was purchased by the City from the Department of Education and is a significant property located on the corner of North Lake Road and Archibald Streets in Willagee.
With a wonderful new 1.28 hectare park now completed on the western third of the site, the remaining 2.59 hectares will be developed according to the Willagee Structure Plan, which received commendation in 2013 from the Planning Institute of Australia for its rigorous community engagement and map-rich, user-friendly format.
City of Melville Mayor Russell Aubrey said in releasing the land, the City’s goal was to see this primary site developed according to best practice, following the concepts of the Willagee Structure Plan.
“The City is looking to make the most of this site which is not only significant in size and location, but also highly valued by the local community. We are seeking innovative proposals for a high quality design that will match the surroundings and set a benchmark standard for future development in the Willagee area,” he said.
“The site’s proximity to Fremantle, key transport routes and the soon-to-be upgraded Melville City Centre offers developers a unique opportunity to capitalise on the surge of interest in Willagee and the wider Melville district.”
Preliminary redevelopment concepts include three and four-storey apartment buildings as well as single residential lots.
Proposals will be received from 15 April 2015 until 5.00pm 28 May 2015.
