Request for Tender The Whittlesea Sewage Treatment Plant operates under a 100% reuse scheme. The plant treats on average 266 ML/year. Class B effluent produced is either reused for irrigation at the Growling Frog Golf Course or onsite irrigation at the treatment plant.

The current volume of reuse at both sites is not sufficient to reuse 100% of the treated effluent and discharges to local waterways will be required in future years if the irrigation capacity is not expanded.

The current onsite irrigation system enables the reuse of approximately 35ML/year of treated effluent. YVW is reliant on the Growling Grass Frog to reuse the remainder.

The existing system has a number of significant limitations:

* It is installed across only seven hectares of the site.
* It provides inefficient coverage as the sprinklers do not overlap. Approximately only 60% of the 7ha is effectively irrigated.
* It is not energy efficient as the pump was never appropriately selected for the system.

Upgrading the irrigation system will address the performance issues and enable coverage of the 12 hectares of land south of the treatment plant. This will enable approximately 70ML/year of effluent to be reused onsite.
