Tender Description

Overview

Powerhouse Museum is seeking to engage suitably qualified photographer/s to document the five inaugural exhibitions of Powerhouse Parramatta in support of the museum's opening on 7 November 2026. Powerhouse is seeking experienced photography suppliers to provide professional exhibition documentation across a range of exhibitions and programs.

Objectives

The project aims to:

  • Capture high-quality photography that accurately documents exhibitions, displays, objects, spaces and visitor experiences
  • Deliver imagery suitable for use across Powerhouse digital, editorial, marketing, communications, publishing and archival channels
  • Provide photography services that can accommodate multiple exhibitions with concurrent delivery timelines
  • Establish clear and competitive market rates for photography, image delivery and licensing to support value-for-money outcomes and future benchmarking
  • Ensure photography is delivered to agreed specifications, quality standards and timelines

Scope

Powerhouse requires professional exhibition documentation photography across multiple exhibitions and projects, with up to five photographers potentially engaged based on project requirements, availability, capability and concurrent delivery timelines. The five inaugural exhibitions to be documented are set out below.

Exhibition One: Task Eternal

Tracing humanity's enduring quest to defy gravity, take flight and journey into the sky, Task Eternal explores ideas, ambitions and innovations through time and space. It brings together the work of scientists, engineers, designers and artists from across Australia and the world to Parramatta, in one of the most ambitious aerospace exhibitions ever staged.

Exhibition Two: The Mall

The exhibition takes Western Sydney's pivotal role in leading a global model of large-scale, transport-integrated retail as a catalyst for exploring the social and cultural phenomena of shopping malls. People, product and capital appear to flow effortlessly through these climate-controlled spaces, their movement carefully shaped by economics, architecture, design and technology.

Exhibition Three: The Dark

The Dark can be wondrous. There's no need to be scared. It's for stars and for crystals, for adventure and dreaming. From the depths of the Earth to deep outer-space, The Dark is there for exploring, for meeting the unknown.

Exhibition Four: Es Devlin: The Turning

Es Devlin: The Turning presents 5 major commissions. Together, they create an atmospheric environment where audiences transform and contribute to each work through acts of gathering, drawing and reflection. Continuing Devlin's interest in the collective imagination, Earth's vast biodiversity and the profound ability of places to house memories, the exhibition is informed by Sydney, its ecologies, communities and evolving identities.

Exhibition Five: Overflow

Overflow is a First Nations-led exhibition grounded in the living principles of Water Country. A convergence of 7 community commissions developed with Aboriginal-led organisations across New South Wales, Overflow shares enduring practices that extend care to saltwater and freshwater systems.
