Overview
Lake Macquarie City Council is inviting applications for the 2026-2027 Environmental Research Grants Program.
Purpose
The program is designed to support projects that will assist Council and other environmental managers to develop appropriate land-use practices, plan remedial and preventative works and adjust management strategies.
About
Council acknowledges the funding contributions received to support the Environmental Research Grant program 2025-2026 by Origin Energy and Delta Power and Energy.
Eligibility
- University researchers, including students and academics
- Research-based organisations
Funding
Successful applicants can receive up to $8000, with higher sums approved in special circumstances.
Grant funds are available to cover consumables and costs incurred during field work, including travel expenses. Funds can also cover laboratory work, computing and printing costs.
The program does not fund payment of wages, purchasing of durables, living allowances, university administration charges or overheads charged by the applicant's institution.
How to Apply
Proposed timeline for assessing submissions:
- September 2026: Submissions open
- 11 February 2027: Submissions close
- March 2027: Environmental Research Grants Committee reviews submissions and determines successful applicants
- May 2027: Lake Macquarie City Council meets to assess and ratify Committee recommendations
- June 2027: All paperwork to be completed by successful applicants and returned together with educational/institution tax invoice
- June-July 2027: Distribution of grant monies and project inception meetings with successful applicants
