Point Turton Boat Ramp Dredging

The Local Government Association of South Australia (SA), on behalf of Yorke Peninsula Council, is seeking a contractor to undertake dredging works at the Point Turton Boat Ramp.

About

Yorke Peninsula Council is a regional local government authority in South Australia, situated between 90 and 200 kilometres west of Adelaide. Managing a vast geographical area of approximately 5,800 square kilometres, the Council provides essential works and infrastructure to a permanent population of 11,000 residents across a diverse network of townships, including Maitland, Minlaton, Yorketown, and Warooka, SA.

The region's operational requirements are driven by its high-productivity agricultural base, extensive coastal environments, and a growing tourism sector that creates significant seasonal demand on public assets.

Scope

The scope includes:

• Dredging within the boat ramp basin
• Dredging of the entrance channel between and around the breakwaters
• Dredging of the area west (seawards) of the boat ramp facility
• Establishing and maintaining a functional entrance channel
• Dredging to a target design depth of Chart Datum (CD) -1.4m, covering an approximate in-situ volume of 2,414 m³

Sand accumulation is primarily driven by northerly winds pushing water and sand along the outside of the northern breakwater, around its southern tip, and into the basin. This causes effective channel closure at low tide and restricts facility access during restricted tidal windows.
