Overview
Queenstown-Lakes District Council is seeking a Request for Information (RFI) response for a study to evaluate the outcomes of speed limit changes implemented within the Queenstown Lakes District.
About
Speed limit reductions were implemented within the Queenstown Lakes District under the Speed Limit Bylaw 2019, with urban speed limits reduced from 50 km/h to 40 km/h from 2019.
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to quantify the safety and operational impacts of the speed limit changes and assess whether the changes have contributed to improved road safety outcomes.
Scope
The scope includes:
- Evaluation of the outcomes of the speed limit changes across the district within the urban area subject to the 40 km/h speed limit, over a 6 year period
- Analysis covering a pre-change period of 2017–2019
- Analysis covering a post-change period of 2023–2025
