2 Principal Java/Bespoke Software Engineer (Developer)

⁠⁠⁠Overview

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) is seeking 2 Principal Java/Bespoke Software Engineers (Developers) to support and develop AMSA's life-critical application, NEXUS.

About

NEXUS is used by AMSA's Rescue Response Centre Australia (RCCA) to help coordinate assets in maritime and aviation search and rescue incidents and to triage and respond to pollution events.

You will support the following NEXUS users:

• RCCA Staff (RCCA)
• RCCA Intelligence Operators

The NEXUS system consists of multiple components built on various technologies and languages (.NET, Java, AWS, Oracle PL/SQL, ArcGIS), providing NEXUS users with the capability to perform their operational business functions. This role will focus on supporting, maintaining and developing solutions for the NEXUS cloud and back-end Java/AWS/Oracle components. The NEXUS back-end comprises multiple Java components and Java EE JMS components used for data integration and message processing, as well as AWS cloud components used to provide external integrations with AMSA's external clients and partners.

The successful candidate will work in a small team of highly skilled Java and .NET developers and subject matter experts with years of business knowledge, all contributing to AMSA's in-house support of NEXUS.

The Role

Responsibilities include:

• Developing enterprise-grade software using Java and Oracle technologies
• Developing and maintaining web-based UI using ReactJS, CSS and HTML
• Designing data models, translating them to physical data models, and implementing them using Oracle Database
• Implementing CRUD operations on the database using Java Object-Relational Mapping frameworks
• Producing and maintaining detailed design artefacts and technical specifications
• Creating and working with RESTful OpenAPI specifications, SOAP WSDLs and XML Schemas
• Developing and maintaining DevOps workflows using Jenkins, Git, Maven and Ant
• Performing and building NEXUS software releases following established processes
• Providing advice and support for the Applications Director and CIO
• Providing on-call services as part of a team roster (calls are rare, approximately one per year)
