Request for Tender – Scoping Requirements for Environmental Reporting Tools for Red Meat Producers

Meat & Livestock Australia Limited (MLA) is seeking proposals to undertake a structured scoping process to inform the future development of environmental reporting tools for Australian red meat producers.

About

Australia's red meat producers manage a significant proportion of the national land base and play an important role in maintaining environmental assets while delivering productive and profitable farming businesses. As interest in natural capital accounting, environmental markets and sustainability frameworks continues to grow, there is an increasing need for tools to help producers capture, understand and communicate environmental information.

Current approaches to environmental reporting and credentialling across agriculture are fragmented, with multiple tools and systems developed for different purposes. This can create duplication, inefficiencies and additional administrative burden for producers, while limiting consistency across the broader supply chain.

Purpose

The project will develop recommendations for an industry-aligned requirements framework that can be used to assess and support environmental reporting tools to meet the needs of producers and the broader red meat industry.

Scope

The scope includes:

• Examining existing approaches to environmental reporting and credentialling in agriculture
• Identifying stakeholder needs regarding environmental reporting tools
• Investigating opportunities to leverage existing systems and data sources
• Developing recommendations for an industry-aligned requirements framework for environmental reporting tools
