Expression of Interest | Wattle Range Council Building Fire Safety Committee Member

⁠⁠⁠Overview

Wattle Range Council is seeking expressions of interest from a suitably qualified professional to fill a vacancy on its Building Fire Safety Committee (the Committee) as a member with expertise in fire safety.

About

The Committee is independently established under section 157 of the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016 and considers building fire safety matters to ensure an appropriate standard of building fire safety is achieved within the Wattle Range Council area.

Objectives

In carrying out its role, the Committee seeks to achieve the following objectives, in order of priority:

• A reasonable standard of fire safety for building occupants
• Minimal spread of fire and smoke
• An acceptable environment for firefighting operations

Eligibility

Applicants should have:

• Qualifications and experience in fire safety, such as Building Level 1 or 2 accreditation under the PDI Act Accreditation Scheme or a Fire Safety Engineer
• Extensive knowledge of the National Construction Code
• Extensive knowledge of the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016 and associated regulations and prescribed instruments
• The ability to enter into a Professional Services Agreement with Council which includes an ABN, public liability insurance up to the value of $20 million in any one occurrence and professional indemnity insurance up to the value of $10 million in any one claim

Role Requirements

Time Commitment

The Committee generally meets four times a year, with meetings held in person or online. Members must attend in person for inspections. Additional meetings may be held if urgent building fire safety matters arise.

Remuneration

An hourly rate will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
