Hervey Section Goobang National Park - Fire Access Fire Trail Upgrade
Tender ID: 618360
Tender Details
Tender Description
Overview
The National Parks & Wildlife Service (NPWS) West Branch, part of the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (NSW), is seeking to engage a single suitably qualified contractor to deliver upgrade works to strategic fire trails within Goobang National Park.
About
The Bush Fire Management Committee has identified strategic and tactical fire trails within Goobang National Park under the Rural Fires Amendment (Fire Trails) Act 2016 that do not meet the measures and standards of the NSW fire management obligations. The Bush Fire Management Committee has decided that renewal of these roads is the most appropriate action to bring the standard of the roads up to meet strategic fire trail requirements.
Purpose
The upgraded fire trails will ensure the protection of Goobang National Park from bushfires and the safety of National Parks and Rural Fire Service personnel in emergencies. In order for the strategic fire trails to be accessed by the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS), upgrades are required to enable trucks to travel where needed.
Scope
The scope includes:
- Civil works to renew and upgrade four fire trails within Goobang National Park, covering approximately 20 km
- Widening of trails and removal of logs and overhanging vegetation where required, to ensure Category 1 fire trucks can safely traverse the trails
- Installation of turning bays to enable trucks to turn around
- Utilisation of the existing fire trail footprint where possible
Works that involve disturbing new ground will be clearly identified in the tender documentation and on-site. These upgrades are intended to support bushfire prevention, suppression and emergency response activities while maintaining the long-term environmental and operational values of the park.
