Tender Description

⁠⁠⁠Tenders are invited from suitably qualified contractors to carry out to Shotblasting to retexture the existing wearing surface of the Pacific Highway.

This contract is for captive shot blasting of asphalt pavement on the Pacific Highway in the suburbs of Narara, Lisarow, Wadalba, Doyalson, Lake Munmorah, Crangan Bay, Belmont, Jewells, and Charlestown.

The aim of the works is to improve surface texture (both macro-texture and micro-texture) and skid resistance of the wearing surface.

Works will be undertaken during the NIGHT, due to restrictions for the implementation of traffic control and creating a safe work site.

The required shot blasting width is the entire lane not including the line marked areas. No line marking is to be removed during the works. Skid resistance will be tested and measured by Sand Patch tests and British Pendulum tests before and after shot blasting of locations. Trial works will be conducted and tested prior to the commencement of the work.

The Contractor will be required to use their experience and skill to adjust the process to achieve the aims of the works. The pavement should not show signs of damage following shot blasting works. If this occurs, the shot blasting is to be terminated immediately, and corrective action proposed.

If severe pavement damage is caused, the Contractor shall be responsible for reinstating the damage area. Severe pavement damage is detailed in Clause 6.8 Finished Pavement Properties / Texture Requirements of this specification.

The work sites are provided in Clause 3 Working Area of this specification and provide the length, type of pavement and area to be treated. The areas / quantity of work provided are estimates only. Payment will be made based on actual quantities measured on site.

A field entry sheet is provided in Annexures G1/F – Field Entry Sheet which shall be used to record treatments carried out at each site.

The scope of work generally comprises of the following but not limited to:

• Site investigation/familiarisation/preparation as necessary.

• Shot blasting of open graded, dense graded, crumbed rubber, rhyolite, and steel slag asphalt pavement.

• The provision of trained personnel to undertake the works.

• The provision of specialised plant, equipment, and materials necessary to undertake the works.

• Site clean-up and removal of any waste materials from the work site on a DAILY basis.

• Stockpiling of waste generated on the worksite at the closest nominated TfNSW stockpile sites to the work area, including Calga, Somersby, Wyong, and Catherine Hill Bay.

• Implementation and operation of Management Systems for elements of quality, environment, safety, community, industrial relations, programming, records, etc • All personnel engaged on the works must be appropriately trained and in possession appropriate tickets.

• All Contractor personnel engaged under this contract must attend the Worker-on-Foot (WOF) training and must carry the WOF card on site at all times. Information on training requirements may be sourced here https://afpa.asn.au/safety-training-snaps-workers-on-foot/

• Contractor is to ensure that any disturbances caused because of these works, direct or otherwise, are made good prior to the completion of contracted works
