Supply of Personal Protective Workwear

⁠⁠⁠Background

The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale requires the provision of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), protective clothing and safety footwear to support a workforce of more than 60 employees engaged in operational, maintenance and field-based activities.

To ensure compliance with workplace health and safety requirements and to promote a consistent corporate standard, the Shire supplies approved workwear and PPE to eligible employees.

Under the current arrangements, each eligible employees is allocated the following standard issue of workwear:

•  Five (5) shirts
•  Five (5) pairs of work pants
•  One (1) outer garment (jacket or jumper)
•  One (1) pair of safety boots

In addition, embroidery of the Shires logo is required on upper garments (shirts and outerwear only) to maintain corporate identity and professional presentation. No embroidery is required on the lowers (pants).

Contract Objectives

This contract aims to achieve the following objectives:

•  Ensure the supply of workwear, personal protective equipment (PPE), and workplace essentials complies with all relevant Australian Standards and legislative requirements.
•  Achieve best practice.
•  Meet community needs and expectations including safety.
•  Providing value for money service to the Shire.

These objectives aim to ensure that the Shire’s requirements are met in a manner that is transparent, accountable and responsive to operational and community needs.

Scope & Specifications

The Contractor shall provide a reliable and efficient service to support the Shire’s operational requirements, including the provision of compliant, fit-for-purpose workwear and safety equipment for employees across a range of roles.

The Scope of Services includes, but is not limited to:

•  Supply of personal protective workwear and PPE
•  Supply of safety footwear
•  Branding and embroidery of Shire logos on garments (as required)
•  Order processing, supply coordination and delivery
•  Supply of associated workplace essentials, including sunscreen, hydration products and similar items.
•  Provision of alternative products of equivalent quality where required (subject to Shire approval)

 Operational Requirements

The Shire has a legislative obligation to provide employees with personal protective clothing and footwear that complies with relevant Australian Standards (see section 2.4) to minimise the risk of injury, illness or harm.

Workwear and PPE supplied under this Contract must support employee safety in various conditions, including:

•  Exposure to UV radiation (including UPF 50/50+ protection)
•  High visibility requirements for work near traffic and plant operations
•  Protection from weather conditions, including cold and wet environments
•  General operational and site safety requirements

The Contractor shall ensure all products supplied are suitable for these conditions and meet the Shire’s operational needs.
