⁠⁠⁠Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) is seeking quotes from competent contractors to provide materials and services to undertake the ARTC Network Investment Program (NIP) - Culvert Upgrade Project – Delivery Package 2 (Pimba to Kalgoorlie).

Description of Works

With natural disasters occurring more frequently and with higher impact, the resilience of the ARTC Network is being challenged and outages on our Network are becoming more frequent as a result. As recent flooding events in 2021 and 2022 demonstrate, extreme weather events are a leading cause of network outages and disruptions, with major economic and social consequences.

ARTC engaged independent specialists to undertake hydrology analysis to understand the potential impacts to the ARTC Network. All existing culverts across the ARTC network have been assessed through detailed independent hydrology modelling to ascertain the degree of flooding risk against a defined flooding event of 1in100 year plus Climate Change effects to identify which assets may be at risk of failure.

Culvert sites identified through independent Flood Modelling Analysis as at risk of washout in a 1in100 year plus Climate Change event, and determined to not be at risk of regional inundation have been targeted for upgrade. This package of works targets 8 high priority locations split into two separable work packages all situated on the ARTC East West Corridor between Pimba (SA) to Kalgoorlie (WA).

The upgrade will increase the overall cross-sectional area available to discharge water on the site increasing the Resilience, in terms of both improved Resistance and improved Reliability, of the track and culvert assets in the prescribed flood event.
