SOH-C916D Indoor Technical Providers Panel – Sub-Panel 2: Lighting

⁠⁠⁠Sydney Opera House is seeking responses from suitably experienced, competent, and skilled organisations and/or individuals to provide lighting services at the House.

The technical services that are required to stage performances at Sydney Opera House are varied, complex, challenging and constantly evolving in response to changes affecting the performing arts sector. The Sydney Opera House Trust (SOHT) are appointing a panel of suitably qualified and experienced technical experts and suppliers to assist in delivering performances at the Opera House.

Established relationships and long-term contracts with a panel of technical experts / suppliers with a diverse range of professional capabilities will ensure that SOHT:

• is able to efficiently access the considerable breadth of skills and knowledge required to meet its demands for diverse technical services;
• has the best qualified suppliers from which to seek quotations in response to specific and clearly defined scopes of work;
• has the best qualified suppliers on standing contracts with terms and conditions agreed, and schedule of rates (where practical);
• avoids overloading a small number of suppliers with too much work; and
• has the ability to obtain competitive market rates for specific events and productions.

Lighting Hire Overview

Lighting hire services at the Sydney Opera House are booked and coordinated via the Lighting Team (for Theatrical Venue lighting) and Production Management Team (for Non-Theatrical lighting). The supply of performance equipment and fixtures is in accordance with the request detailed in the by SOHT after reviewing Artist’s Technical Rider. SOHT stages a variety of shows across five major venues, as well as indoor auxiliary spaces.

Where SOHT cannot supply the specified requirements from its internal inventory, external suppliers are engaged to supplement.

Suppliers who provide lighting hires to the SOHT must be very experienced in comparable environments i.e. leading performing arts centres with multiple venues and/or high-profile live events. Suppliers must be adept at scaling their equipment and services to suit the requirements of different venue types, uses and sizes. 

Items Typically Hired

SOHT typically requires the following items for lighting hire:

Theatrical Venues

• Lighting Equipment: including a range of incandescent, LED and automated fixtures

• Lighting control and systems

• Atmospheric and special effects

• Power infrastructure, cabling and rigging

Non-Theatrical Venues

• Lighting Equipment: including a range of incandescent, LED and automated fixtures

• Lighting control and systems

• Power infrastructure, cabling and rigging

Please note that Indoor Technical Providers Panel Lighting Hire comprises of supply of hired equipment and services from specialist personnel. The RFT provides the Tenderer with the choice to tender for supply only or supply and services. The Returnable Schedules require that the Tenderer indicates which option their Organisation is tendering for:

Option A: Equipment Supply Only

Option B: Equipment Supply and Specialist Personnel Services

In addition to the above, Tenderers are to indicate if their Organisation is tendering for Theatrical Venues or Non-Theatrical Venues lighting hire, as described in Section 2.3 of the Supplier Brief. Organisations may tender for both if they choose to:

• Theatrical Venues
• Non-Theatrical Venues
