1 Data Architect

⁠⁠⁠The EL1 (ICT and Digital Solutions) is responsible for leading the design and development of the Maritime Single Window (MSW) information model and associated data architecture foundations to support delivery of the MSW program and related IT and digital initiatives. The role focuses on defining and harmonising data models and schemas across agencies, aligning to national and international maritime reporting obligations (including the IMO Compendium), and shaping how information is structured and exchanged between MSW and downstream systems.

Key responsibilities include confirming business and regulatory requirements with stakeholders; developing and maintaining fit-for-purpose plans and delivery schedules for data architecture deliverables; establishing appropriate data access, governance, security and records arrangements; undertaking data stocktakes and mapping available data sources; assessing data quality, completeness and risk; and producing core architecture artefacts such as conceptual and logical data models, data dictionaries, reference data definitions, and mapping specifications.

The role supports cross-agency collaboration by leading data harmonisation and the development of data standards (including definitions, business rules and reference data), and by preparing material for and presenting to relevant working groups. The position is responsible for building and maintaining reusable data architecture artefacts and supporting repositories (e.g., models, schemas, specifications and documentation), and for documenting assumptions, business rules, metadata and lineage to support transparency, traceability and reuse. It coordinates validation, stakeholder endorsement and handover/knowledge transfer of architecture deliverables at key project stages.

The position has no direct reports. The role lays the groundwork for MSW by supporting development of the MSW data reference model and associated supporting datasets, mapping data elements to end-to-end business processes to inform the redesign of regulatory forms and advising on structured data exchange and integration patterns to enable interoperability across maritime systems.
