EOI - Bowen Marine Infrastructure Replacement Project - Design and Construction

⁠⁠⁠The Bowen Wharf is situated off Santa Barbara Parade in Bowen, North Queensland, within the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area (“Bowen Wharf”). Historically, the Bowen Wharf has played an essential role in supporting local industry, tourism, and community activities. From an engineering perspective, the Bowen Wharf has reached the end of its service life. Originally constructed in 1867, it is no longer economically sustainable to maintain for continued use.

North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation Limited (NQBP) has undertaken comprehensive concept development and stakeholder engagement within the Bowen community to advance plans for a replacement jetty (“Recreational Jetty”). The Recreational Jetty, once completed, will provide Bowen with a sustainable, modern community asset featuring fishing areas and shaded seating, while recognising the cultural significance of the Juru people.

Currently, the Bowen Wharf is utilised for the berthing of tugs used to service the Port of Abbot Point. As part of the Expression of Interest (EOI), NQBP intends, subject to funding and approvals, to include a replacement commercial wharf as a separate arm to the Recreational Jetty to support ongoing towage operations based in Bowen for the Port of Abbot Point (“Commercial Wharf”).
