Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Research Grants 2026

⁠⁠⁠The Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence (DFSV) Research Grants have a total of $200,000 available in 2025-26 through National Partnership Agreement funding for research projects for up to two years starting 1 July 2026.

Applicants can submit proposals of up to $200,000, which is the total funding available and funding may be allocated to one or more applicants. Please refer to the following examples of different sized project budgets and the types of methodologies that may be used. Please note that research teams may submit proposals that vary from these suggested parameters:

• Small projects: 6 months to 1 year. Budget: <$50,000
• Medium projects: 1 to 1.5 years. Budget: $150,000 to $200,000. Methodology: mixed methods evaluation with existing quantitative data source.
• Large projects: Time frame: 2 years. Budget: $200,000. Methodology: multi-strand study or randomised controlled trial

Background

The DFSV Research Grants are a commitment under Initiative 34 of Strategy 2025-2028 to build DFSV research capacity in the NT by investing in, partnering with and establishing research projects to grow the evidence base and improve understanding of DFSV in the Northern Territory (NT).

The grants align with the Department of Children and Families (DCF) Research Agenda 2025-2029 (DCF Research Agenda), which guides the prioritisation and development of research projects supported or funded by DCF, in line with DCF’s strategic priorities and to inform key policy and practice questions. It contributes to a stronger evidence base that supports effective policies and programs for children and families across the NT.

DFSV is a priority area of the DCF Research Agenda, which contributes to commitments under the DFSV Framework and the National Plan to End Violence against Women and Children 2022-2032.

Who can apply

Funding is available to individuals and organisations.

To be eligible for funding an individual must

• reside in the NT for the duration of funded activity

Types of individiuals that are eligible to apply for funding include

• Any NT-based individual with the capacity to undertake research is eligible

To be eligible for funding an organisation must

• be physically located and actively operating in the NT

Types of organisations that are eligible for funding include

• Any NT-based organisation with the capacity to undertake research is eligible

How to apply

Applications must be completed via GrantsNT using a registered GrantsNT account. If you don't have an account, you are required to register in GrantsNT. If successful, you will be required to apply to NTG Accounts Payable for a vendor ID to enable receiving payments.

The application form within GrantsNT allows for detailed consideration and comparison of applications. Before an application can be considered, all relevant areas of the application must be completed and requested documents attached.

Letters of support from relevant stakeholders, including demonstrating cultural capacity and victim survivor centredness are encouraged.

Once an application is submitted, you can follow the status of your application by logging into your GrantsNT account. 

You must apply before the advertised closing date. We cannot accept late applications or partial applications.
