Tender Description
The existing MAN intake boom protects the hazardous area directly in front of the intake structure by providing a visible and impassable floating barrier to exclude vessels (and swimmers) and mitigates the accumulation of floating debris on the intake screens and /or floating debris entering the penstock by deflecting material towards the lake shoreline.
The MOW drawing (Refer Section 2.4e. Attachments) detailing this original structure shows the last Revised as Built was issued in 1971, making the structure approximately 54 years old.
At this age, the asset is at the end of its useful life and requires either:
(1) direct replacement with equivalent components based on MOW drawing or
(2) an alternate design proposal that performs the same function.
A weakness of the current MAN Intake Boom is the quantity of debris (water-borne wood; trees; etc) that can pass over/under the boom structure to eventually be caught against the station intake screens. Whatever option(s) are offered for buyer consideration should include features to counter or prevent this happening.
