High Resolution Imagery: Proof of Concept for Identifying Land Use

Background

ABARES produces a national foundational dataset detailing land use across Australia. Land use information is created through a combination of administrative, observational, and modelled data. This is an evaluation exercise to test potential use cases for high-resolution satellite imagery to support modelling and validation activities for the 2025-26 land use, improving the accuracy of the product.

Requirements

ABARES is seeking a small number of images at multiple resolutions (<1m and 3-5m) to test use cases in identification of:

• crops and cropping area
• intensive agriculture
• renewable energy infrastructure
• waste management facilities
• mining areas

Images will primarily relate to the current reference year of 2025-26. Coverage of previous time periods related to published Land Use data would be beneficial for some use cases.

Spatial extent of the desired images range from 5x5km to 25x25km.
