Electrical Cable and Equipment - Installation and Supply - Defence Strategic Shipbuilding

⁠⁠⁠The Commonwealth of Australia has been awarded the Strategic Shipbuilding Agreement pursuant to the development of a Sovereign, Continuous Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment capability. Under this agreement, a Tasking Statement has been issued for the build of the Damen designed Landing Craft – Heavy, which will be the largest military vessel built in Western Australia to date and will require a collaborative effort from Australian and New Zealand industry.

To this end, a competitive demonstration of manufacturing capability is sought from appropriately skilled and resourced suppliers, in accordance with the attached hull sub-assembly specification. It is anticipated that this EOI will be used to develop a shortlist of suppliers to be invited to participate in the capability demonstration, which will include building the specified sub-assembly for assessment. Assessment criteria and weightings are provided in the attached specification.

Scope Overview

Austal Defence Shipbuilding Australia is seeking Expressions of Interest from suitably qualified Australian suppliers with demonstrated capability in marine electrical outfitting, specifically relating to the supply and installation of electrical cables and associated equipment for large, complex vessel construction programs.

The EOI will be used to identify organisations with the capacity, experience, and systems to support a multi-vessel, multi-year naval shipbuilding program.

Indicative Scope of Work

The indicative scope may include, but is not limited to, the following activities:

1. Supply of Materials

• Supply of electrical cables and associated consumables in accordance with project specifications, drawings, and cable lists

• Materials to be sourced and managed by the subcontractor

• Equipment datasheets and detailed technical information will be progressively issued during later phases

2. Installation Services

• Cable cutting, kitting, pulling, routing, termination, and labelling

• Installation activities to be performed in accordance with Austal installation philosophies and production work packages

• Primary cableway systems (tray and ladder) will be installed by others

3. Production & Yard Interface

• Early-stage cable tray installation may be undertaken by unit builders

• Subsequent installation and completion works undertaken following block assembly and consolidation

• Coordination with Austal production sequencing and shipyard operations is required

4. Program Characteristics

• Phased electrical installation packages aligned to production work packages

• Long-term program duration extending to at least FY2036
