Tender Description

Richmond Shire Council is inviting submissions for Tender 2526_02 – Richmond Aerodrome Fencing. The scope of works includes the supply and construction of approximately 2,200 metres of animal exclusion security fencing, incorporating a ground-level apron for preventing animal ingress, and three (3) strands of barbed wire installed at the top of the fence line.

Purpose

The purpose of an aerodrome fence is to provide a secure perimeter that protects aviation operations by controlling access to the airfield and preventing unauthorised entry by people, vehicles, and animals.

Objectives

The objective of this tender is to engage a qualified contractor to construct an extension of approximately 2,200 metres of security fencing at Richmond Aerodrome. The extension will enhance safety and operational security through the installation of a ground-level apron and barbed wire deterrent.

Background

The Richmond Aerodrome is a small public airport located 3km northwest of the township of Richmond. Regional Express Airlines (Rex) operates scheduled flights every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, providing connections to both Townsville and Mount Isa.

Location

An extension of security fencing is required to be constructed on either end of the runway.

The extension is to extend out 2,200 meters, which will allow for the extension of the runway to facilitate arrival and departure of larger aircrafts.

Scope

Council request the extension of an animal exclusion chain wire mesh security fence with a ground-level apron that consists of mesh installed at the base of the fence and extends outwards. Installation of 2 steel double access gates will also need to be constructed at either end of the runway.

The material is to be a high-quality chain wire mesh security fence, with a minimum height of 2.1 metres including three strands of barbed wire mounted on top and a ground-level apron installed on both sides. Posts are to be constructed from steel.

Preliminaries (Contractor Requirements)

• Purchase all materials required for the project

• Arrange for all materials to be brought to the site

• To construct the animal exclusion security fencing that meets the provided specifications by Richmond Shire Council

• If further materials are required, the contactor will seek approval from Richmond Shire Council prior to purchasing.

Construction

• Ground preparations, including marking relevant distances for each section of fencing

• Erection of the animal exclusion security fencing

• Erection of 2 steel double gates, 1 at each end of the runway

• Erection of the ground-level apron buried beneath the fence line

• Cattle and other animals must be kept out of the site during construction.
