Expression of Interest – General Practitioner (GP) Haymarket Foundation – Newtown

⁠⁠⁠Haymarket Foundation is seeking a compassionate General Practitioner with an interest in working with people experiencing homelessness to provide Medicare-funded primary care services to residents at our new 34-bed supported accommodation centre at 142 Carillon Avenue, Newtown.

This is a unique opportunity to practise meaningful, relationship-based medicine within a supportive, multidisciplinary environment. Our residents often experience complex health needs, including chronic disease, mental health concerns, substance use issues, and the long-term impacts of social disadvantage. Access to consistent, trauma-informed primary care can be transformative.

The GP may choose to provide consultations:

• On-site at our Newtown accommodation centre, supported by a senior nurse and case management team; or
• From their own practice, if located nearby, with coordinated referrals and appointment support from our team.

The GP will work alongside:

• A senior nurse who coordinates appointments, assists with clinics, and supports referral pathways
• An experienced on-site team of case managers providing psychosocial support
• Established connections to Sydney Local Health District’s Virtual health services; links to specialist and community health services

We are interested in GPs who:

• Have a strong commitment to health equity and social justice
• Value collaborative, team-based care
• Are comfortable working with complexity and social vulnerability

Time commitment is flexible and negotiable — maximum half a day per week (or less), depending on availability.

This role would suit a GP seeking to make a tangible difference in the lives of people who are too often excluded from mainstream healthcare.
