Primary Health Care for Papua New Guinea (PHC4PNG)

⁠⁠⁠This investment supports Papua New Guinea (PNG) to deliver on its National Health Plan 2021-2030 by strengthening the systems, governance, and services required for accessible, affordable and high quality primary health care, particularly in rural and remote areas where most of the population lives. It focuses on improving provincial and district leadership, financing coherence, and service delivery to achieve measurable improvements in health outcomes by 2035.

The program supports the delivery of integrated packages of primary health care addressing high burden health priorities, including communicable diseases such as HIV; reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health (including family planning, immunisation and cervical cancer); and selected non communicable and nutrition related conditions. It also provides enabling support for district planning, supervision, outreach, facility connectivity and community governance, alongside targeted catalytic grants—such as a Health Innovation Fund—to strengthen Provincial Health Authorities through innovation, local problem solving and system improvements. Overall, the investment contributes to PNG’s vision of preventing ill health, responding to emerging risks, and ensuring inclusive, integrated primary health care for all.
