Mountain Maid Mine Education Centre Extension

⁠⁠⁠Constructing an extension to the education gallery, including toilet facilities, storage space, grated pedestrian walkways, retaining walls and batter stabilisation, septic and water tanks.

Project goals

The new services will provide accessible compliant facilities to all visitors of the education centre and newly developed Mountain Maid Underground Tours. This will remove the temporary ablutions block from the landscape and provide storage for staff members undertaking maintenance and space to hold more equipment needed for tours. The walkways and connections to the existing ed centre are also new and required for egress into the classroom. Due to the site being within a National Park, sewer and water mains connections are not available for the supply of fresh water for flushing and effluent removal. This has necessitated the need to install Rainwater Catchment Tanks and a Septic System to process the waste material.

Scope

The construction scope includes:

Extension of the existing Ed Centre shelter (5.2m by 4.8m) to include:

• (1) Unisex Accessible WC with washbasin, clothes hooks and grab rails.
• (1) Unisex Standard WC.
• 18m2 of Storage Space Room.
• FRP grated entry walkways and egress points.

Enabling Works:

• Co-ordination of materials delivery to site.
• Preparation and submission of works methodology and construction program.
• Installation and management of public safety controls.
• Installation of new retaining wall and batter stabilisation adjacent to the extension to provide a level transition from the access path.
• Installation of new septic and collection tank
• Installation of new 6kL rainwater tank.
• New service connections to electrical fittings, wash basins and toilets.
• Disposal of building waste and vegetation as required.
