Northern Beaches Manly Heritage Review Study

⁠⁠⁠Council is seeking to appoint suitably qualified consultants to undertake a Heritage Review Study (the Review) for the Manly area, with focus on the suburbs of Manly, Fairlight, Clontarf, Balgowlah, Balgowlah Heights and Seaforth. The purpose of the Review is to ensure that places of European heritage significance are accurately identified, appropriately protected, and clearly understood by all stakeholders involved in the development assessment process. This work will strengthen certainty, transparency, and consistency in planning decisions and development process.

The scope of the Review is limited to European heritage within the Manly area and excludes Aboriginal cultural heritage, which is subject to separate legislative processes and specialist assessment.

Between 2008 and 2018, the former Manly Council commissioned several heritage studies, including the Sustainable Heritage Study and the Pittwater Road Conservation Area 2016 Review. However, the recommendations from these studies were not implemented. The current project will involve a comprehensive review of all previous studies, their findings, and their recommendations, using this material as a foundation for the new Heritage Study Review.
