Hunter Water IE4K Switch Replacement

⁠⁠⁠Hunter Water Corporation has a fleet of Cisco IE4K network switches deployed across Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTP), Water Treatment Plants (WTP) and Depots which are approaching End of Security (EOS) and End of Support. This switch infrastructure will need to be replaced to ensure all hardware is patched, supportable and to avoid security risks.

These IE4K Cisco switches will reach End of Security and End of Support in July 2027, after this date, patch and security updates will no longer be available. This may expose the corporate network to potential cyber-security threats and vulnerabilities, posing a risk to reliability and availability of network communications.

By replacing the ageing switches with new Cisco IE3300 switches that include vendor support for ongoing security patches, software updates, and hardware maintenance, this project aims to mitigate service continuity and regulatory risks.

The primary objectives of the LAN Refresh Project are:

Replace the ageing Cisco IE4K switches with new Cisco IE3300 Switches that are under vendor support for ongoing security patches, software updates, and hardware maintenance while mitigating service continuity and regulatory risks.

To ensure a secure, reliable, and fully supported network operations across critical assets through the proactive replacement of switches approaching End of Vulnerability and Security support.

To maintain ongoing compliance with the SOCI Act and alignment with ISO 27001 by ensuring our network switches remain vendor-supported, secure and capable of receiving ongoing security updates and patches.
